'Whispers From Nature' Exhibition
5 Apr. 2025 - 29 Nov. 2025

Price: Entry with Admission
Location: The Stained Glass Museum, South Triforium, Ely Cathedral, Ely, CB7 4DL
Whispers From Nature
‘Whispers from Nature’ brings together glass works Warboys has made using her Muller technique. Associations ripple through the resulting images. Marks seem to reference the interior of bodies, their map of veins and capillaries, while simultaneously suggesting the cartography of terrain. Circular, enclosed forms can be indicative of a womb or a nest while also evoking an ammonite’s spiral and the swirl of the Milky Way. These works are enigmatic, not settling to a single representation, instead overlaying imagery suggestive of biology, geology and cosmology within the boundaries of a single glass pane.

Two Day Glass Stained Glass Workshop
25 Apr. 2025 10:00-4:00 - 26 Apr. 2025
*** FULLY BOOKED *** Please contact us for waiting list

Price: £280 per person including all materials, equipment and tuition
Location: The Stained Glass Museum & Lighthouse Ely
Workshop places go live on Thursday 12th December 2024
Book
You begin the first day with your tutor by choosing your own panel design from a selection of patterns, known as ‘cartoons’. Then selecting the coloured glass for your painted areas, you will learn how to cut it to shape and your tutor will demonstrate how to size and score glass to make a break line, and how to grind the edges of the cut glass to achieve a precise shape. The remainder of the day will be spent learning how to apply the enamel paint using different paint techniques. Finished pieces will be kiln fired at intervals throughout the day.
During the second day, you will learn the leading, glazing and soldering techniques that will enable you to assemble your cut glass pieces into a single stained glass panel. Your tutor will demonstrate how to frame your cartoon with wood laths, forming a matrix into which lead calmes and glass can be inserted. You will be taught how to cut lead calmes, and how to open up their central channel to accommodate cut glass. Once you have fixed all of your glass pieces in lead, you will be shown how to use a soldering iron to bond the joints of lead. If you would like to be able to hang your panel, your tutor will help you solder a fixture to the lead. This is the final stage of the workshop, after which you will be able to take your stained glass panel home to enjoy!
