His Majesty King Charles III retains his patronage of The Stained Glass Museum

Following His Majesty The King’s Accession in September 2022, a major review of more than 1,000 Royal Patronages and charity Presidencies has been undertaken. To mark anniversary of Their Majesties’ Coronation, the outcome of this review has been announced, and The Stained Glass Museum is amongst the charities to be retained.
As HRH The Prince of Wales, His Majesty became Patron of The Stained Glass Museum in 1999. His Majesty has visited the museum twice, first in 2000 to mark the reopening of the museum’s new gallery, and most recently in November 2018 to mark the museum’s 40th birthday.

Members of the Royal Family are proud to maintain close associations with more than 1,000 charities, military organisations, and professional and public service bodies, both in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth. Royal patronage highlights the vital work of these organisations and allows their many achievements and valuable contributions to society to be more widely recognised and promoted.

His Majesty has a keen interest in the preservation of heritage crafts and his ongoing support as Patron of The Stained Glass Museum will help us keep the art of stained glass in the public eye. This is especially important at this present moment in time when traditional stained glass making has recently been listed as an endangered craft in the UK.”

Over 1,000 different patronages were reviewed carefully and individually as part of the review. A recommendation based on the history of Royal connection, the organisations’ prominence in their field, and how they align with themes of His Majesty’s work, was then put to His Majesty for agreement.
