MAQUETTE OF A STAINED GLASS WINDOW
Brief description: Maquette of stained glass window designed by Ervin Bossanyi in the late 1940s depicting Christ in Majesty with book in left hand and right hand raised in a gesture of blessing, surrounded by the symbols of the Evangelists and Alpha and Omega.
The central mandorla with blue background depicts bearded Christ dressed in white shirt with pink stole and orange and brown skirt and bare feet. He is seated on a blue, pink and green patterned globe with a pink cruciform nimbus holding a book on his left knee with his left hand, his right hand raised in blessing and a further mandorla encircling his upper body with wavy lines to either side. Upper tracery lights to left and right in blue, orange and white, contain the symbols for Greek letters for alpha and omega. The other four tracery lights are in brown, orange, pink, blue, yellow and white. Left centre tracery light depicts a winged man, the symbol for St Matthew the Evangelist. Right centre light depicts an eagle, the symbol for St John the Evangelist. Left lower tracery light depicts a winged bull, the symbol of St Luke the Evangelist. Right lower tracery light depicts a winged lion, the symbol of St Mark the Evangelist.
