Mary is kneeling with he back to the viewer. Elizabeth has her hands on Mary's shoulders. They are in open country in front of house of Zacharias, the husband of Elizabeth. Four swifts or swallows fly behind the figures. Bothre women wear halos. Elizabeth wears a simple cloak with is yellow stain, and Mary has a darker cloak with a hood. A popular subject for stained glass, this portrayal depends simply on paint enlivened with silver stain, similar to some of the medieval roundels on display earlier in the exhibition. From 1911 Margaret E. Rope also worked with her cousin Margaret Agnes Rope at the Fulham Glass House. After 1945 she had her own studio assisted by her friend and pupil Claire Dawson.
