THE FACE OF MY FATHER

Brief description: Stained glass light made up of three panels. A female figure can be seen carrying a child, while another child holds onto her robes. Designed by J W Brown and manufactured by Powell, James and Sons in 1892.

Top and base panels of stained glass light have architectural canopies and foliage boarders. Here, a classically draped figure in a sentimental Victorian pose is relieved by gritty painting on beautifully muted glass. Central panel has woman standing under trilobed arch, the red foliate background is of a fourteenth century style. She faces left, with long fair hair, cream sleeves and a green gown. She is holding a naked child in her left arm, while a standing child is to the right in classical robes. This was originally the central section of the right-hand light of the three-light east window in a side chapel just to the north of the Chancel, called the Resurrection Chapel at the time of the churchÂ’s closure. The window is a memorial window to Thomas Francis Wills who died aged 50 in Lancaster Gate.
