Brief description: Black and white photograph of a 2 light window depicting the nativity. Designed at the Goddard and Gibbs Studio, London
This window depicts the nativity in a central roundel, against a background of plain rectangular quarries. On the left, the Virgin Mary sits on a stool and leans over the manger as she swaddles the infant Christ in a blanket. His tiny hand grips one of her fingers. On the right, St. Joseph crouches, holding a lantern, his hand spread in a gesture of awe. Starlight beams down upon the manager, and a basket lies abandoned on the floor. Below the nativity scene is a memorial inscription. Commissioned by E Gandy & Sons and Rev W Oliver. Goddard and Gibbs job number 21/82453/A, LON 4675. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
