Brief description: Black and white photograph of a 3 light window depicting St Michael, Virgin and Child, and St Gabriel. Designed at the Goddard and Gibbs Studio, London
On the left, the Archangel Michael kneels. He is dressed in the uniform of a Roman soldier, with skirt-like pteruges and a muscle cuirass. He wears a cloak over his shoulders and a crown, and carries a sword and shield. In the centre, the Virgin Mary, dressed in a long robe with a cloak draped over her head, sits enthroned. One hand holds the foot of the infant Christ, the other supports his side. Christ stands in her lap, clutching a round object in one hand and raising another in a gesture of peace. He is distinguished by his cruciform halo. A dove holding a eucharistic wafer, representing the Holy Spirit, flies above their heads. On the right, the Archangel Gabriel kneels, carrying a sprig of lilies and a scroll with a quote. Lilies are associated with St. Gabriel because they are associated with the purity of the Virgin Mary, and therefore with the Annunciation. Commissioned by Rev Dr Price. Goddard and Gibbs job number 21/78642/A, LON 3506A. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
