Brief description: Black and white photograph of a single light window depicting Jesus meeting Andrew and Peter, and the Feeding of the 5,000. Designed at the Goddard and Gibbs studio, London
A photograph showing the entire window this light belongs to is also in the museum's collection (ELYGM:2025.4.26). This light depicts two scenes from the life of Christ, against a background of plain quarries (panels of glass) with leaded patterns. In the centre, Andrew introduces his brother Peter to Christ, who greets them as they come in from fishing. Their boat is behind them, and Peter holds a net. This image neatly combines differing accounts of this meeting in Matthew 4:18-22 and John 1:41-42, and bears a quote from that passage of John underneath. The lower scene also features Andrew (John 6:8). He urges forward a small boy with five fish and two loaves, which Jesus, standing ready to receive them, will multiply to feed the 5,000. A crowd of people watch in the background. Commissioned by Miss Davies. Goddard and Gibbs job number 21/76833/A, 3189. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
