Brief description: Black and white photograph of a two light window depicting St Barnabas and the Virgin Mary. Designed at the Goddard and Gibbs studio, London
This window depicts two significant Christian figures. On the left, St. Barnabas was an early Christian teacher and colleague of St. Paul, famous for his preaching and writing. Here, he is dressed in a robe and cloak, and carries a scroll. On the right, the Virgin Mary, with a long robe and headdress, dandles the young Christ in her arms, one hand supporting him from underneath, the other holding his hand. Christ is dressed in a white robe and distinguished by his cruciform halo. The haloes of both figures make up the top of their lights, and they are surrounded by a border of plain rectangular quarries. A symbol and inscription form the bottom of both lights. Commissioned by T Foster. On reverse - 2. 76x28, £337. Goddard and Gibbs job number 21/73763, LON 2866. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
