Brief description: Black and white photograph of a 3 light window depicting a Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London. Designed at the Goddard and Gibbs studio, London
This striking window, notable for the thick black linework, depicts a Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London. The Yeoman Warders were formed in 1485 by Henry VII to guard the Tower of London. Their role then, as now, was to guard prisoners in the Tower and look after the crown jewels. Modern Yeoman Warders are retired warden officers or staff sergeants with at least 22 years' good service in the British Armed Forces. Here, the figure wears the traditional uniform of the Yeoman Warders, and carries a pike. The outline of the Tower of London is visible in the background. On reverse - JC ex works £254 = £6.10.7 Some gloss. IE 1/32a sown by JC. Goddard and Gibbs job number 21/75966/B, LON 3341. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
