Brief description: Black and white photograph of a two light window depicting Christ blessing the children. Designed at the Goddard and Gibbs studio, London
Christ blessing crowds of children is a popular and appealing subject for stained glass windows, based on Christ's command to his disciples to allow children to come forward and be blessed (Matthew 19:14). Here, Christ, noticeably taller than everyone else, stands with a white cloak wrapped around his shoulders and a cruciform halo. He gestures towards a group of seven children, mainly young girls, and a mother holding a toddler. A rural landscape with three birds fills the background. Goddard and Gibbs job number 21/13262, 3255. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
