Brief description: Design for a stained glass window made up of one light depicting Jesus healing the sick. Designed by A E Buss at Goddard and Gibbs studio, London
Proposed design for the Methodist Church, Thorpe Bay, Southend-on-Sea. This interesting window depicts Jesus Christ as the Good Samaritan. Dressed in a pink robe and swathed in a red cloak, with a cruciform halo, Christ takes the naked and emaciated traveller into his arms and bandages his head wound. His donkey, with a fetching red saddle, looks on. A desert landscape forms the background. By making Christ the Good Samaritan, this window blurs the literal and metaphorical meaning of the parable. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
