Brief description: Design for a stained glass window made up of two lights depicting St Peter and St Paul Designed at the Goddard and Gibbs studio, London
St. Peter and St. Paul are two of the most significant saints and followers of Christ in Christianity. St. Peter, on the left, wears a blue robe and a green cloak. He carries the keys to heaven and a book (Matthew 16:13-19). Behind him is an anchor and a chain, representing his early career as a fisherman, his later career as a 'fisher of men', and his role as the stable foundation of the church. On the right, St. Paul, dressed in a blue robe and purple cloak, reads from a book and clutches a sword. St. Paul was beheaded: the sword is a reminder of his martyrdom. Both figures are set against a background of plain diamond-shaped quarries, and have labels bearing their names. Designed for Hazelmere Parish Church, High Wycombe. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
