Brief description: Colour photograph of James (Jimmy) Weatherly, working at a window at the Goddard and Gibbs Studio, London
This staged photograph shows James Weatherly holding a paintbrush near a completed window, as his hand grips the side. Weatherly worked as a master glass cutter for Goddard & Gibbs, cutting out the pieces of glass before they were painted and soldered together. The window he is with depicts a figure in a mitre (bishop's hat) holding a crozier (bishop's staff) and a staff with trailing threads attached to the top. The figure may be a bishop or St. John, judging by the label held in the mouth of an eagle in the bottom left-hand corner. The figure is surrounded by an architectural canopy. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
