Brief description: Design for a stained glass window made up of one light depicting Jesus holding a Patriarchal cross. Designed at the Goddard and Gibbs studio, London
This geometric design shows Jesus rising from his tomb. He is dressed in red and white, with a cruciform halo. He raises one hand in a gesture of blessing, and in the other carries a staff topped with a patriarchal cross. A patriarchal cross is a cross with an extra horizontal beam, representing the panel nailed above Jesus' head with his charges. Jesus steps out of a rectangular stone tomb with the lid dumped beside it. The abandoned spear and lamp of the tomb's terrified guards is visible on the right. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
