Proposed design for a single light at St John's Church, Brockmoor, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, with a commemorative inscription for a local man. King David was a famous king of Israel. He entered the court of King Saul due to his ability with the harp, and gained fame after defeating the giant Goliath with his sling. Saul, jealous of David's popularity, tried to have him killed, but the two were reconciled and David became his heir. After committing several sins related to a woman named Bathsheba, David was rebuked and repented. Here, David stands in a striped robe, holding his famous harp and a sword. His name is inscribed in his halo. The background is formed of irregular rectangular quarries of plain glass. Goddard & Gibbs, founded from a merger of Walter Gibbs & Sons and Goddard's Glass Works in 1938, were prominent makers of stained glass for the international market and also conserved and restored glass.
