Brief description: Black and white photograph of a stained glass window in the studio depicting characters from the plays of Shakespeare
The photograph is of a two light window depicting characters from the plays of Shakespeare. The image is a press cutting. The window was designed by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style. On the reverse of the photo is a note reading 'Shakespear memorial window at St Albans. In his studio within the shadows of St Albans Abbey, Mr. Chrisopher Webb has been putting the finishing touches to the Shakespear Memorial window which he designed for the Southwark Cathedral. The window will be dedicated and unveiled on Shakespeare's birthday on April 23rd. The photo shows two of the three sections of the Shakespeare Memorial window. 22.3.54 Topical Press.
