Brief description: Design showing 5 single light stained glass windows depicting ships
Proposed design for 5, 9 panel windows. The two left and right lights contain a central design featuring galleons in full sail. The final window depicts a cruise liner style boat, with the dates AD 1650, AD1750, AD 1850 and AD 1950. The central light features a the war memorial window, depicting St Michael surrounded by soldiers, airmen and sailors, as well as nurses and families on the home front. Each window is set against a quarry background. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
