Brief description: Design showing 3, 3 light stained glass windows depicting Christ with the Magi, in the temple and in the workshop
Proposed design for the 3 south aisle windows, each depicting scenes from Christ's childhood. Each window is set against a quarry background. On the left, the three Magi attend the Holy Family in the stable, bringing gifts. In the middle, a relieved Mary grabs hold of Jesus, after finding him preaching in the temple. Three rabbis look thoughtful on the left, whilst St. Joseph leans on his stick and catches his breath on the right. The right hand window depicts Christ helping in St. Joseph's carpentry shop. He kneels on a beam to saw it. The beam Joseph is working on suspiciously resembles a cross, whilst the Virgin Mary carries a jar of water on her head. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
