Brief description: Design for a 5 light stained glass window depicting Christ in majesty
Proposed design for the East window depicting Christ in majesty in the centre light. Each of the other lights represents a season. Spring, on the far left, has lambs, sowing, fish, a deer, and fruit trees. Summer has a cow, sailing, sheltering from a storm, and the Virgin Mary with Jesus, watched by an owl. Autumn has wheat, fruit picking, walking through windy weather, a cockerel, and a fire. Winter has snow, ice skating, a fox, and the Nativity. Each light has a representative angel: the one for winter holds a Christmas tree! In the tracery, angels play instruments and hold banners. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
