Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting suffer the children
Proposed design for the window on the north side depicting Christ blessing the children. Christ sits in a garden with six children listening to him. He pats the heads of two children, a boy and girl. The girl has brought him flowers. The oldest girl supports a baby on her shoulder, a strong reminder of how stained glass reinforces societal and gender norms. Another little boy fidgets nervously with the hem of his shirt. The children are dressed in then-contemporary clothing, providing an example for the children in the church. The banner above their heads quotes Matthew 19:14. The window is set against a quarry background. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
