Brief description: Design for a single light stained glass window depicting St Francis
Proposed design for the window on the south side depicting St. Francis, surrounded by birds, a fluffy rabbit, and fruit trees. The window is set against a quarry background. St. Francis of Assisi (c. 1181-1226) was an Italian monk, founder of the Franciscan Order, and serves as patron saint of animals. The birds flapping around him are a reference to his habit in life of preaching to groups of attentive birds. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
