Brief description: Design for a single light stained glass window depicting an St George and St Christopher
Proposed design for the window depicting St George, St Christopher and a crest. The window is filled with floral motifs, birds and butterflies. The window is set against a quarry background. At the top, St. George charges on, raising his sword above his head. In the centre, Christ, in the guise of a child and looking rather like a damsel in distress, begs St. Christopher to help him across a river. In the legend, St. Christopher helps, only to express shock at the weight of the child, who then reveals himself to be Jesus, the weight of the world and its creator. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
