Brief description: Design for a 3 light stained glass window depicting Christ healing the sick
Proposed stained glass design for the window on the south side depicting a scene from Mark 10:46-52. A blind man, Bartimaeus, shouts to Jesus for mercy as he passes by. Jesus beckons him and tells him his faith has healed him, and Bartimaeus sees again. In this dramatic rendition, Bartimaeus falls to his knees before Christ, arms outstretched. Jesus stands solemnly before him, holding him up by the upper arms. The composition focuses on the gaze between Jesus and Bartimaeus, a poignant moment of connection which emphasises Bartimaeus' newly-acquired sight. The figures are contained within a foliate border, with a quote from the biblical scene at the top against a plain quarry background. A dedication is in the bottom of the centre light. The initials after the names in the dedication mean the dedicatee was a surgeon. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
