Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting Mary, Christ, St Elizabeth and John the Baptist
Proposed design for a the window of the south side depicting Mary and Christ as a child in the left light, with St Elizabeth and St John the Baptist, as a child, in the right light. Window set against a quarry background with an inscription at the bottom, which has not been filled in. Both Jesus and John the Baptist have the attributes of their adult selves. Christ spreads his arms and gathers his feet together, a posture reminiscent of his pose on the cross, and one hand is folded in a gesture of blessing. John the Baptist is dressed in his iconic camel hair tunic and brandishes a cross-topped staff. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
