Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting King Alfred and Asser
Proposed design for a the north window of the Lady Chapel depicting King Alfred in the left light and Asser, Bishop of Sherborne in the 890s, in the right hand light. Heraldic shields and inscriptions are in each light. The window is set against a diamond quarry background. Design stamped with the Salisbury Diocesan Advisory Committee approved stamp, 7 December 1934. On the reverse of the design, there is a note in Webb's hand reading 'Remaining lights £60, Tracery lights £2, £62 excluding fixing'. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
