Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting St Cecilia and angel
Proposed design for the chancel window depicting St Cecilia in the left light and an angel in the right light with a banner. The angel extends a wreath to St. Cecilia, perhaps celebrating her piety. St. Cecilia (c. 200-235) was a young Roman noblewoman, noted for her singing voice, who was executed for her faith. She is the patron saint of music, hence why she carries a pipe organ here. This is a memorial window for a church organist, making St. Cecilia an apt choice. The window is set against a quarry background. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
