Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting the Virgin Mary and child
Proposed design for the window on the east window depicting the Virgin Mary and child in the centre light supported by angels and floral swags. In the bottom of the window is a nativity scene with the wise men in the right light and shepherds in the left light. At the top of the tracery is a cross with a crown. The banner behind Mary is embroidered with lilies, a flower which is associated with the purity of the Virgin Mary. Jesus' pose, with his arms spread and feet together, resembles his pose on the cross, and acts a sobering reminder of the end of the biblical story. The window is set against a quarry background. 'As submitted to the Arts Council' on the back. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
