Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting St George and a Mother with children
Proposed design for the window depicting St George above a ship in the left light and an angel, a mother with 3 children, and a pastoral scene in the right light. The window is set against a quarry background. A memorial inscription records this window honours Judith Meyrick (1875-1963), whose husband was an Admiral in the British Navy. We can read the patriotic St. George and the patient mother as metaphors for Meyrick and his wife. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
