Brief description: Design for a single light stained glass window depicting Queen Elizabeth II
Proposed stained glass design for the Commonwealth Transept depicting a young Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation. Queen Elizabeth (1926-2022) is dressed in St Edward's Crown, an ermine-lined cloak, and her coronation gown, embroidered with significant plants and flowers from the Commonwealth. She carries the Sovereign's Sceptre and Orb, and is surrounded by scrolls, floral motifs and heraldry against a quarry background. The Latin phrase on the scroll translates to 'God save the Queen'. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
