Brief description: Design for a single light stained glass window depicting St Lawrence
Proposed stained glass design depicting St Lawrence. He is surrounded by scrolls against a quarry background. St. Lawrence (225-258) was a Roman priest executed for his faith and for distributing church goods to the poor before they could be confiscated by the government. For this, St. Lawrence is alleged to have been roasted to death on a gridiron, a kind of large grill, and here holds the gridiron at his side. He is dressed in a priest's robes and also holds a large palm leaf. This design was approved by the London Diocesan Advisory Committee on the 25 October 1985. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
