Brief description: Design for a 3 light stained glass window depicting Christ with St Leonard and St Owen
Window designed for the North Side of the church. In the centre, Christ, dressed as a bishop, stands against a starry sky. Beams of light radiate from his cruciform halo. He stretches his hands in a gesture of blessing, showing of the stigmata, wounds from his crucifixion. A dove, representing the Holy Spirit, flies below his feet, above a Eucharistic chalice. On the left, St. Leonard (d. 559) kneels. Although there are no records of his life, St. Leonard was one of the most popular saints in the Middle Ages, perhaps because he is the patron saint of prisoners and women giving birth. The chain depicted in a roundel above his head refers to this. On the right, St. Owen kneels with crossed arms. There are several saints named 'Owen': this one is probably a Benedictine Monk associated with St. Etheldreda, who is especially venerated in Cambridgeshire. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
