Brief description: Design for a 5 light, and 3 light stained glass window depicting Christ carrying the cross and Christ before Pilate
Proposed design for a 5 light window. Largely clear rectangular quarries, with a central design depicting Christ before Pilate. A second 3 light design is also largely clear rectangular quarries with a central scene depicting Christ carrying the cross. No location or date given, but a post-it note (JE?) reads 'right hand looks similar in style and dimensions are very close to Stoke Newington no.9 (2024.14.187) sketch, itself presumably a rejected design, but Jesus carrying his cross doesn't appear in the final sequence. Left hand also similar in style but window space is different, 8 panes per light vs 6 at Stoke Newington). This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
