Brief description: Design for a 3 light stained glass window depicting St Andrew, Virgin Mary and child, and St Nicholas
Proposed design for the north east window of the chancel depicting St Andrew in the left hand light, the Virgin and Child in the centre light and St Nicholas in the right hand light. St. Andrew, one of Christ's twelve apostles, is pictured here with the X-shaped cross he insisted upon when he was executed, stating he was not fit to be crucified in the same manner as Christ. St. Andrew's cross is most famously used as the flag of Scotland, pictured here above his head. St. Nicholas, now most famous for being the inspiration for Santa Claus, appears in his bishop's vestments. Each light has a heraldic crest in the top, and is set against a quarry background. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
