Brief description: Design for a 3 light stained glass window depicting Christ in Glory
Proposed design for the East window depicting Christ in Glory in the centre light, with Mary and infant Christ in the left light and St Michael with a dragon in the right hand light. The story of St. Michael and the dragon, iconographically similar to that of St. George, comes from the Book of Revelation (Revelation 12:7) and symbolises the struggle between good and evil. St. Michael can be distinguished from St. George by his wings and golden, Romanesque armour. Angels are in the top of each light, holding a large cross, and the window is set against a quarry background. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
