Brief description: Photograph of a design for a 6 light stained glass window depicting the resurrection and the crucifixion
Proposed design for the windows which show the Ascension and the Crucifixion in the central lights. In the upper design, an enthroned Christ is depicted in the centre, surrounded by trumpeting angels. His mother and disciples gaze up at him from the lights on either side as he ascends to heaven. In the lower design, Christ is crucified, his head tilted down towards his mother. The three Maries stand around him, with Mary Magdalene kneeling by his feet and the Virgin Mary watching her, whilst the third Mary looks up towards Christ. An angel holds a chalice beside him, a symbol of Jesus' fate. On either side, events from Jesus' life are shown, including the Annunciation, Nativity, sentencing by Pontius Pilate, and burial. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
