Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting Christ in the carpenters shop
Proposed design for the westernmost window in the north aisle depicting Christ in the carpenters shop, within a floral wreath. St. Joseph helps Christ kneel on a plank and saw, as the Virgin Mary watches with a look of mild concern. Two tiny angels hold a hammer, pincers, and nails above, which can be read as an amusing addition to the scene or a reminder of Christ's crucifixion, with the tools used to add and remove the nails through his hands and feet. At the bottom of the window is a scene depicting the Nativity, with the shepherds kneeling before him. The window is set against a diamond quarry background. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
