Brief description: Design for a 3 light stained glass window depicting the resurrection of Christ
Proposed design for the east window depicting the Virgin Mary in the left light, with the annunciation below, Christ resurrected in the centre light with the crucifixion below and St John the Evangelist in the right hand light with the Revelation below. St. John is depicted holding a chalice with a snake emerging from it. This is a reference to a story where somebody attempted to poison St. John: he said a blessing, and the poison exited the cup in the form of a snake. The Virgin Mary and St. John are both present in the crucifixion scene below Jesus, wearing similar clothes and on the same sides, creating a cohesive composition to the window. The windows have blue backgrounds with swags and floral motifs weaved throughout. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
