Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting the risen Christ and a shepherd
Proposed design for a stained glass window featuring the Annunciation. The Archangel Gabriel, with beautifully embroidered robes and magnificent red and white wings, kneels before the Virgin Mary, who gestures to him. A dove, representing the Holy Spirit, beams light upon her. A pot of lilies, symbolic of Mary's purity and common in Annunciation scenes, sits behind her. The design is set in a central floral roundel against a quarry background. Angels holding banners and crests fill the tracery lights. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
