Brief description: Design for a 2 light stained glass window depicting the labours of the month
An incomplete proposed design depicting the labours of the month. Common in medieval stained glass, the labours of the month act as a sort of visual calendar for the agricultural year. The black, white, and yellow style is highly reminiscent of medieval examples. Here, each scene is within an oval roundel with swags around it and a banner for the month. Half are filled and half are not. The panel is decorated in paint and stain against a white quarry background. This design was created by Christopher Webb (1886–1966), an English stained glass designer based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He studied at the Slade School of Art and was then articled to Sir Ninian Comper. During his active career from 1920 to 1964 he produced over 400 windows with a distinctive character and style.
