ST CHRISTOPHER
Brief description: Stained glass panel of St Christopher by Leonard Potter (1928)
A stained glass panel depicting St Christopher by Leonard Potter (1928). Depicting the legend of St Christopher who carried a child, later revealed as Christ, across a river, this panel uses brightly coloured glass and paint to show the texture of his linen tunic and leather belt. The artist Leonard Potter (1936-2011), the artist, studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts, where he was a pupil, assistant, and colleague of Karl Parsons. Potter worked closely with Parsons, as well as other key artists such as Christopher Whall and Harry Clarke. However, he gave up his stained glass career in the 1930s to take up a position within the BBC's publicity department, where he was involved in designing TV logos, screen tests and backdrops.
