DALLE DE VERRE FRAGMENT
Brief description: Orange Dalle de Verre glass. In a rectangular shape.
Dalle de verre', literally meaning 'glass slab', was a technique invented in the 1930s. Pieces of 'slab' glass (i.e. a flat sheet of glass of varying thickness) are broken up with a hammer or cut. This produces chipped, faceted pieces of varying thickness, which refract and reflect light in striking ways. These pieces are then set in a matrix of concrete or epoxy resin. The result is colourful and striking, with deeper, almost glowing colours from the reflected light.
