Brief description: Wooden box which belonged to Ervin Bossanyi (1891=1975). I

An inscription on the box indicates that the box was used by Bossanyi to transport his small maquette designs from Nazi Germany to England. The box is labelled as housing designs for the Tate Gallery, London. These designs included an Angel giving benediction to a woman washing. Bossanyi was commissioned to design and make a window for Tate in 1938 but it was not installed in the Tate Britain building until 1947-48. The window was removed during renovation work in 2012-13 and remains in store.
