THE LOST SHEEP

Brief description: Stained glass roundel depicting the parable of the lost sheep, set amongst grisaille. Made in 1865 by James Tennant Lyon. Part of a lancet window.

Stained glass roundel with depiction of the parable of the lost sheep. The outer border has an inscription and foliage in gold letters. This parable was part of a design for two lancets, each with a roundel set amongst patterned foliate grisaille glass (see also The Lost Silver ELYGM: 1976.9.1). This type of window is known as a 'medallion' window and these were popular window forms in the late-twelfth and early-thirteenth centuries.
