THE APPLETON MEMORIAL WINDOW, FEED MY LAMBS
Brief description: A stained glass window of three lights depicting Jesus with Simon Peter, women and children. Designed and made by Margaret Chilton in 1912.
This window shows Jesus Christ with one of his disciples Simon Peter (also known as St Peter) and a group of women with children. The left panel depicts Simon Peter, who was a fisherman, holding a fishing net which trails into water. He stands facing Jesus Christ and wears a turban-style hat and a small halo. His right hand holds a fishing net which trails into water and is visible in all three panels. There are multi-coloured fish in it. The centre panel shows Jesus Christ with pastoral staff in right hand. Jesus is nimbed and bearded and wears a pale green/grey and cream gown which is full length. The right panel shows two women and three children. A woman in a grey dress stands at the top in the background. A woman in a duck-egg blue gown sits with a baby on her lap. Two children kneel in foreground, one in a yellow dress slipping off her shoulder. According to the bible Peter was asked to take care of the Christian community and he is an important figurehead in the Church. The title
