Saint Michael the Archangel, who is often shown fighting the forces of evil, was a popular choice for war memorial windows. The battlefields of the First World War are depicted in muted grey at the bottom of this window. Orr worked for a number of commercial studios influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. His work has an elegant Art Nouveau feel. He continued designing windows for different firms well into the 1930s.
