CHRIST IN THE HOUSE OF MARY AND MARTHA

Brief description: Stained glass panel depicting Jesus Christ seated, hand raised in blessing with Martha bringing food to him and Mary of Bethany kneeling at his feet. Designed by R T Bayne and made by Heaton, Butler and Bayne, 1865

Stained glass panel showing canopy top with turrets and central flower. Trilobate arch with two red columns suggesting interior. In the left background Martha is facing right and is holding a tray with jug and fruit. She is wearing a green top with yellow sleeves and a pink cloak. In the centre of the scene is Jesus Christ wearing green robes and a red cloak which is clasped at the neck. His left hand is raised in blessing. To the right Mary of Bethany is facing left in profile, hands clasped. she has long fair hair, a purple halo, blue robes with yellow sleeve and is sitting on a small stool.
