This cartoon shows the resurrected Christ appearing to the Virgin Mary. The rolled away tombstone from where Christ has emerged is shown leaning up behind Mary. Christ holds the Resurrection flag, and is dressed in a a single garment. Mary looks upon him with a shocked expression. Her pose conveys the shock she has experienced and her shoulders are slightly turned away and hands clasped together. The cartoon was drawn by Henry Holiday for Powell & Sons. It has several pencil annotations, indicating 'stain' or 'Ruby' - providing instructions for the glass painter and glazier who would use the cartoon to make the finished stained glass panel.
