Art Workshop with Laura Pearson-Clark

  (c) Stained Glass Museum

About the Workshop

Ever feel like you want to get painting but you hit a big creative block as you stare at the blank white page?

Local art tutor and artist Laura Pearson-Clark will guide you through how to beat the block of the blank page. You’ll gain confidence in your mark-making on acrylic paper. Laura will introduce a range of techniques with different media including acrylics, gouache, graphite and acrylic pens.

The workshop includes time to explore and take inspiration from the stunning stained glass museum collection plus the famous Ely Cathedral itself. Laura will support you in building up a harmonious composition to achieve a final piece of art that reveals your own style that you can be proud of.

What to bring: the cathedral can be cold, so do bring warm clothing and an overall as acrylic paint does not wash off clothes when dry!

Cost: £75 per person including materials, equipment and tuition

Friends of the Museum receive 10% discount
Suitable for age 18+

how to book: Please contact us for further details or to book a place on this workshop.

Meet the Tutor

Hello. I’m a mum, a wife, a cat owner, an artist and art tutor based in the Garden Studio at Haddenham Arts Centre located between Ely and Cambridge. I was furloughed through lockdown one which gave me the chance to go back to my creative roots and re-evaluate my direction. I quit my job and I'm now a full-time self-employed artist and tutor. I create mixed media paintings inspired by art forms in nature that I observed from daily lockdown walks and provide art classes for individuals, groups, families including a regular Sketchbook Wednesday Club. In 2018 I exhibited 1000 origami cranes I made to mark World Mental Health Day at The Chequer Studio, Ely. I’m a Cambridge Open Studios member and I’ll be exhibiting my work in all four weekends in July 2022.

I graduated from the MA in Museum Studies at University of Leicester in 2011 with a distinction and previously studied Fine Art Painting at Norwich University of the Arts and Cyprus College of Art. My work has been exhibited in venues across Cambridgeshire and Norfolk including VKGallery (St Ives), Haddenham Galleries, Cambridge Contemporary Art, University of Cambridge The Pitt Building, Primavera, Cambridge Arts Theatre, Maddermarket Theatre and The Playhouse, Norwich.

Meet the Tutor

Jane has always loved drawing and early on she knew she wanted to continue pursuing her art alongside her love of literature which led Jane to study a degree in Arts and Humanities at De Montfort University in the early 90’s. Whilst taking time to raise a family Jane started work in The Stained Glass Museum in Ely Cathedral 10 years ago and more recently embarked on a programme of study and daily painting practice. Over the last 6 years she has developed her painting and drawing style bringing new techniques from time spent print making and learning about art history. Jane has continued to push her learning and loves to share her knowledge by running workshops and giving short guided tours at The Stained Glass Museum. As well as painting expressive, textural landscapes Jane regularly take commissions for pet portraits in soft pastels and continues to enjoy painting illustrative watercolours inspired by stained glass.
