The Stained Glass Museum is located in Ely Cathedral. It occupies a space in the south triforium, an upper level of the cathedral. Access is by a stone spiral staircase (40 stairs) in the south-west transept. For those unable to access the museum a touch screen virtual visit is available on the ground floor.View a map of Ely.

By Train:
Ely is 1 hour 15 minutes by rail from London, and 15-20 minutes from Cambridge. The Stained Glass Museum is a 15 minute walk from Ely rail station. There is a taxi rank outside the station.

By Car:
Ely is situated on the A10 north of Cambridge. There is a large free car park within 300 yards of the Cathedral. Parking in Ely.

Opening Hours


Monday - Saturday    10:30-5:00      (Last Admission 4:30)

Sundays                     12:30-4:30      (Last Admission 4:00)

Annual Closures: 1 January, Good Friday, 25 December, 26 December

Temporary Closures: Please note that the Museum is located in a working Cathedral building, and occasionally has to close for special events and services. Please check here for temporary closures, or phone in advance of your visit to avoid disappointment.


South Nave Aisle Roof Repairs 2017-2018

From August 2017 Ely Cathedral are carrying out some major repairs to the South Nave Aisle roof above The Stained Glass Museum. The Stained Glass Museum will remain open to visitors for the majority of the works, with some scaffolding in the museum gallery.We apologise for any disruption or inconvenience to visitors. We anticipate the work will be complete by autumn 2018.
